Speak The Dream Foundation is a non-profit, mentoring and teaching organization that provides opportunity, tools and skills to foster and disadvantaged youth.
Our passion is to empower and inspire our to live their dream by exposing them to positive experiences, broadening their view of the world and showing them a world of possibilities that exists beyond their current circumstance.
Our goal is to show our youth that the world is a very big place with endless possibilities if they are willing to do the work. We believe in our youth and we make sure they know that.
Although we focus on foster youth, we support and mentor any child/youth who is economically, socially and academically AT RISK.
Youth emancipating from the foster care system encounter hardships that are particularly unique to their circumstance and we work diligently and passionately to ensure that their quality of life will NOT reflect these statistics.
Here are some staggering statistics:
-Over 70% of all California state penitentiary inmates have spent time in the foster care system
-65% of youth in California leaving the foster care system, do so without a place to live
-Nearly 40% of transitioning youth will be homeless within 18 months of emancipation
-Studies show between 44-77% of emancipating youth have completed high school
compared to 93% of non-foster care youth
-According to the California Dept. of Social Services, 51% of youth are unemployed within 2 to 4 years of emancipation
Our goal is to facilitate a transition towards self-sufficiency, empowerment and success in the pursuit of their dream.
